WATCH: Trailer For New Doc on Late Fox News Chief Roger Ailes Paints Towering Picture of a ‘Monster’ and ‘Kingmaker’
A new documentary releasing this winter will tell the story of former Chairman and CEO of Fox News Roger Ailes, and the trailer out now is itself a gripping look at a man who had enormous influence over American politics, and impact on our culture.
“Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes” from Magnolia Pictures is directed by Alexis Bloom and executive produced by Alex Gibney, and already causing a stir for the impression of Greek Hero/Disney Villain duality of the portrayal. “He changed the world,” reads one of the title screens.
“I don’t believe anyone will ever be elected to a major public office again without the skillful use of television,” says a younger Ailes in the opening clip of the trailer, and that sets a perfect tone as it goes through scenes of Ailes pictured with powerful leaders, to clips of women voicing their stories about his sexual harassment, to images of the faces he made famous on Fox.
Some of those interviewed for the documentary make appearances in the trailer, including former Fox host Glenn Beck and CNN’s Alisyn Camerota.
“It’s easy to make somebody into a monster,” says Glenn Beck in the closing lines of the trailer, “It’s hard to see that you’re on that path, too.”
