‘We Didn’t Blame White People!’ MSNBC’s Velshi Says There Were ‘Far More Plane Crashes’ Back Before DEI and ‘Equitable’ Workforce
MSNBC anchor Ali Velshi dismissed President Donald Trump’s criticism over DEI programs in the transportation industry, arguing that people didn’t “blame White people” for plane crashes before the advent of such policies.
Earlier this week, an American Airlines plane collided with a Blackhawk helicopter over the Potomac river in Washington, D.C. resulting in the deaths over 60 individuals. Following the tragedy, Trump blamed the former Biden administration over DEI hiring at the Transportation department.
On Saturday, Velshi dismissed these concerns and claimed that Trump’s attack on DEI are about rolling back the equitable federal workforce.
Let’s just mind this a little bit, because there were far more plane crashes before there was anything called DEI, before we had diversity in the federal workforce, before there were any pilots other than the Tuskegee Airmen who were — there were no commercial. There were virtually no commercial black pilots. There were no women there. Planes crashed a lot more. And that has a lot more to do with technology and where we are in safety.
We didn’t blame white people for the crashing of planes. Nor should we have. We learned how to investigate plane crashes carefully and properly and come up with recommendations.
Now it’s about something else. Now it’s about standards and diversity. Because as Melissa points out, we have a more equitable federal workforce.
