WH Official Mercedes Schlapp on Kavanaugh Allegations: ‘Incredibly Disturbing’ Last-Minute Tactic from Dems
White House director of strategic communications Mercedes Schlapp slammed Senator Dianne Feinstein on Fox News tonight over her handling of Christine Blasey Ford‘s letter accusing Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault.
Schlapp spoke with Martha MacCallum roughly an hour after the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmed a public hearing with both Kavanaugh and Ford has been set for next Monday. She affirmed that the White House is “100 percent” behind Kavanaugh and said, “This is a completely false allegation.”
She also took a shot at Feinstein, who received the letter in July and said in a statement last week she sent it to the FBI:
“It’s incredibly disturbing that Senator Feinstein would have brought this up at the last minute which, as we know––we’ve gone through four days of lengthy public hearings with Judge Kavanaugh. They had a closed session where they were able to talk about these sensitive topics. He had to respond to over 1,000 written questions and now at the last minute we’re seeing Senator Feinstein bringing this up. I just think it’s incredibly disturbing, incredibly unfortunate that now we have to delay this process.”
Schlapp said that Ford’s voice “should be heard,” but she also defended Kavanaugh––someone she’s known personally for years––as “someone with the utmost character.”
“This is a last-minute political tactic by the Democrats to stall this process,” she added. “We know that Judge Kavanaugh is qualified. He’s someone who is incredibly respected. And there are so many of these women who have known him for a very long time.”
