‘You’re Also a Catholic, Are You Not?’ Marjorie Taylor Greene Badgers Witness With Irrelevant Questions in Committee Hearing

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) used her time in a committee hearing about federal work-from-home policies to ask a Democratic witness about abortion.

On Wednesday, the House Oversight Committee convened for a meeting about “The Stay-at-Home Federal Workforce: Another Biden-Harris Legacy.”

One of the witnesses was former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, who served as the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration. O’Malley, a Catholic, is also in the running to be the next chair of the Democratic National Committee. Greene took issue with O’Malley’s pro-abortion stance and juxtaposed it with his Catholicism.

“I’d to ask you another question,” she said. “Since you’re very interested in being DNC chair, you are, after all, a lifelong Democrat politician. I don’t even know if you had a job in the real world, but you have been an elected politician for years. Mr. O’Malley, you’re also a Catholic, are you not? You’re also a Catholic, are you not?”

“I am,” came the reply.

“Do you serve God or do you serve the Democrat party?” Greene inquired.

“I serve God and country,” O’Malley answered.

Greene’s line of questioning prompted Democratic Ranking Member Gerry Connolly (D-VA) to interject.

“Mr. Chairman, as a Roman Catholic, I take offense at the suggestion that somebody has to choose between God and their service to country as a Catholic,” Connolly said.

Greene reclaimed her time and asked the witness, “Mr. O’Malley, will you be supporting the murder of the unborn up until the day of birth, like your party does? As DNC chair, will you be supporting the murder of innocent unborn people? Is that in line with your faith in God in the Catholic Church?”

“I trust the judgment of women and doctors over the judgment of government,” he responded.

Greene again asked if O’Malley supporters “the murder of unborn children.”

O’Malley reiterated that he trusts women and their doctors to make decisions about reproductive health.

“Well, thank you for letting God know where you stand with the murder of the unborn,” Greene said.

The Georgia lawmaker has been an outspoken opponent of abortion. In 2022, she claimed that Satan is coaxing women into getting abortions.
