U.S. Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reunited with their doppelgängers at a summit in Washington, D.C., over the weekend, and posted their uncanny selfies to social media.
Coons wrote in German “Wer ist wer?” meaning, “Who is who?” while Scholz wrote, “Great to see my Doppelgänger again – @ChrisCoons!”

The photos went viral on X with more than seven thousand likes. One poster cheekily captioned, “US Senator Chris Coons, left (maybe), next to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, right (probably).”
The Associated Press described the moment:
The Delaware Democrat and the leader of Germany’s coalition government share an uncommon likeness, right down to their bald tops and squinty smiles, which they showed off in a selfie taken by Coons on Thursday during Scholz’s trip to the American capital to encourage U.S. support for Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia.
The AP noted that the politicians are five years apart in age, with Scholz at 65 and Coons at 60. They met previously at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in January, according to the Associated Press.
This week, Scholz met with President Joe Biden and members of Congress to push for aid to Ukraine, explaining “the stakes” of the war for Europe, the AP reported.
Scholz said, “Without the support of United States, and without the support of the European states, Ukraine will have not a chance to defend its own country,” the AP reported.
