BREAKING: Ukraine Agrees To Ceasefire Deal — Will Enter ‘Immediate Negotiations’ to End War Following Trump-Zelensky Fight
Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz announced on Tuesday that Ukraine accepted terms for an immediate ceasefire and “negotiations” to end its war with Russia.
Rubio and Waltz made the announcement from Saudi Arabia following negotiations and an offer to the Ukrainians that they accepted.
The temporary deal would include a 30 day ceasefire, as well as Ukraine entering into a critical minerals deal like Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was first supposed to sign onto during his visit to the White House last month where sparks flew between him and President Donald Trump in front of cameras, casting some doubt on the future of US support for Ukraine as it continues battling a Russian invasion.
Trump told Zelensky to be more “grateful” for US support and accused him of “gambling with World War III” by not accepting an immediate deal. Zelensky pushed back, saying his country needs guarantees against another Russian invasion.
Rubio said on Tuesday that the Ukrainians took a “concrete step” towards peace with the deal, which the Russians now need to agree to.
“We’ll take this offer now to the Russians,” Rubio said after thanking Saudi Arabia for hosting the negotiations with Ukraine. “And we hope that they’ll say yes, that they’ll say yes to peace. The ball is now in their court. But again, the president’s objective here, number one above everything else, he wants the war to end, and I think today Ukraine has taken a “concrete step in that regard. We hope the Russians will reciprocate.”
