Cops Prevented Husband of Slain Uvalde Teacher From Trying to Save Her: ‘They Took His Gun Away’

Police officers on the scene of last month’s massacre at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas disarmed the cop husband of a wounded teacher and prevented him from possibly saving her.

She died along with another teacher and 19 children during the May 24 slaughter at Robb Elementary School.

The revelation comes from Texas Department of Public Safety Director, Col. Steven McCraw.

McCraw’s agency is investigating the botched police response to the school shooting – the deadliest in Texas history – as it becomes clearer first responders refused to act as a madman murdered 21 people.

WFAA reported,

Texas DPS Director Steve McCraw told the Texas Senate in a hearing Tuesday that Mireles’ husband – a police officer who responded to the scene – knew his wife had been shot and was detained and had his gun taken from him when he tried to go into the classroom.

McCraw testified before the Texas Senate Tuesday with more details about the inept and derelict officers who responded to the massacre.

He recounted how officer Ruben Ruiz was informed his wife had been shot by an armed 18-year-old. Ruiz was married to teacher Eva Mireles, who called him during the killings to tell him she had been wounded.

McCraw said at one point, Ruiz entered the school armed with a gun, but was detained by other officers.

“And what happened to him, is he tried to move forward into the hallway,” McCraw told lawmakers. “He was detained and they took his gun away from him and escorted him off the scene.”

McCraw also informed the Texas state Senate a door officers waited more than an hour to breach was never locked.

Per the latest information about the shooting, it would not have mattered if the door had been secured. A tool to remove it was at the scene within eight minutes of the beginning of the massacre.

Nothing was done as heavily armed officers sat on their hands and listened to gunshots.

Children in the classroom sat inside with the gunman for one hour and 14 minutes before a Border Patrol tactical team entered, shot and killed the attacker.
