According to public records, Rudy Giuliani owes the IRS over half a million dollars in back taxes. And if that wasn’t enough, the agency also put a lien on his Palm Beach, Florida property.
The Daily Mail reported that a court filing revealed a bill of $549,435.26 in federal taxes owed in 2021. The same notice from August also notified Giuliani, a former advisor to former President Donald Trump, that a lien was being placed on his Florida penthouse, reportedly valued at $4.5 million.
The news comes as Giuliani’s legal problems and fees continue to grow, with former White House attorney Ty Cobb describing the situation as a “tragic fall” to CNN’s Erin Burnett:
I think he’s in a lot of trouble. I think it’s a huge problem. I think it’s, like any American who saw him throw the first ball out at Yankee Stadium after 9/11 and thought he was “America’s Mayor,” I think this is a tragic fall. … The depths I don’t think we’ve necessarily seen yet. So I do think he’s in in in great difficulty.
In addition to his tax bill, Giuliani has also been sued by his own legal team for not paying legal fees worth $1.36 million and by former employee Noelle Dunphy, who accused Giuliani of harassment, wage theft, and “other misconduct.”
And if that wasn’t enough, the former mayor of New York City was also indicted as a co-conspirator in Trump’s election fraud case in Georgia, where he was also found liable and fined for the defamation by two election workers. Giuliani has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him in Georgia.
All of this amid a damning report in the New York Times that Giuliani’s drinking problem was becoming “more difficult to hide.”
