‘A True Fighter’: Republicans and Democrats Come Together to Send Thoughts and Prayers to John McCain


Senator John McCain has garnered a great deal of respect on both sides of the aisle for his decades of service to his country, and after the news came out about his brain cancer diagnosis tonight, his Republican and Democratic colleagues came together to send him and his family their thoughts and prayers.

Both President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence put out statements:

McCain’s longtime friend Senator Lindsey Graham spoke to reporters:

Senator Jeff Flake, McCain’s Arizona colleague, tweeted after speaking with him tonight:

And Congressman Steve Scalise, still recovering in the hospital, sent a similar message:

Republicans and Democrats from both the House and Senate came out to tweet their heartfelt sentiments as well:

McCain’s former running mate Sarah Palin wrote on Facebook, “John McCain is one tough fighter – we know he’ll face this diagnosis with courage and strength. Our family continues to lift John and his family up in prayer.”

And both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton sent their best wishes too:
