Advertising Fail: Dailymotion Monetizes Terrorist Videos with Major Brands
A recent survey of terrorists videos on the website Dailymotion found that many of them were being monetized by major brands, brands that you’d recognize, and brands that would certainly not want to appear next to terrorist videos.
Pando has found advertisements for Barclays, Microsoft, Amazon, Santander, Travel Supermarket, Samsung, Phones4U, Airbus, Google, and Audi on Dailymotion.com – served with videos made by jihadi propagandists belonging to known terrorist organizations like ISIS, Al-Quaeda or Rayat al-Tawheed.
In one instance, Lipton Iced Tea sponsors a gruesome video in which gun waving mujahedeen display the head of a man they’ve killed, who they describe as a “paedophile rat”.
While the terrorist groups themselves will not get the money, the views these videos get will turn into ad revenue for both DailyMotion and their advertising partners. Neither the Paris-based Dailymotion nor its parent company, the London-based Orange Communications, returned any requests for comment to Pando.
We easily found multiple videos of Syrian terrorists sponsored by Reebok, whose ad is set to a soundtrack of that annoyingly popular whistle song.
