Aidan McLaughlin Named Mediaite’s New Managing Editor

Since launching during the July 4th weekend of 2009, this website has had a handful of captains steering the good ship Mediaite. I was the first and then recently came back (and stayed far longer than I had planned!) to help transition to a new editor. Well I’m now pleased to announce that former Senior Editor Aidan McLaughlin has been promoted to Managing Editor effective immediately. Aidan will help lead an expansion of Mediaite’s staff with a larger mandate than any editor before him.
Most recently, Aidan honed his journalistic craft on the streets of late night New York city as a reporter at The New York Daily News. His shoe-leather reporting skills — combined with his prior experience at London-based global affairs and lifestyle magazine Monocle — represents a near-perfect metaphor for the broad sensibility he brings to the site.
Aidan joined the Mediaite editorial team over a year ago and quickly impressed us enough to earn a quick promotion to Morning Editor last fall. Moving forward, with Aidan and senior editors Joe DePaolo and Josh Feldman leading the way, we expect the site to do more original reporting on both sides of the political media aisle in addition to continuing to analyze the moments in cable news and elsewhere that are driving the day’s discussion.
Abrams Media founder and Mediaite publisher Dan Abrams said “we needed someone with the right sensibility, insight, fearlessness, and love of the craft and were lucky that Aidan was right there. I am thrilled that he will be taking on this new role.”
I will continue to serve as Editor-at-Large and provide editorial assistance when needed.
We are very excited for Aidan and look forward to the future of the site under his steady hand.
