Why Is There A Che Guevara iPhone App But No Glenn Beck One?
Alas, Glenn Beck is on vacation this week or he could jump all over this “evidence” that Apple is run by evil, Mao loving, progressives. The company’s approval a Che Guevara app to the iPhone is all of the sudden making media waves. The Che app, approved last month, allows iPhone owners to “carry around quotes like ‘The revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall'” with you all the time. Which actually makes me wonder if Che is enjoying a bit a resurgence thanks to Glenn Beck’s continued focus on him. Anyway, here’s the conspiratorial rub (such as it is.) Apple has boycotted Fox News.
Howie Kurtz reported a few weeks back that a “handful of advertisers, such as Apple, have abandoned Fox altogether.” It’s a pretty ballsy decision considering the sort of ratings the network enjoys (not that Apple is suffering for attention). Conclusion: Apple loves Che and hates Glenn Beck. Maybe.
Apple’s boycott of Fox does not necessarily extend to iPhone apps as this Big Journalism post suggests. There is a Fox News iPhone app. There is also a Glenn Beck locator app.
Sadly, there is no Glenn Beck app, which I suspect is at least partly the result of Fox being rather strict about trademarks and unauthorized apps (they recently had Apple remove one) than it is about Apple banning Glenn Beck (though that’s clearly not outside the realm of the possible). So maybe the question is why doesn’t Glenn Beck make an iPhone app, preferably having something to do with chalkboards, and see if Apple approves it.
