Ariana Grande Throws Down Over Objectifying Comments: ‘I Felt Sick’

screen-shot-2016-12-28-at-11-21-34-amPop sensation Ariana Grande has a voice and she knows how to use it for more than just impressive runs.

The star — who has penned feminist essays and social media posts before — used the notes app on her phone to quickly send a message of female empowerment to her 43 million Twitter followers yesterday after an excited fan congratulated her boyfriend Mac Miller for “hitting that” right in front of, well, “that.”

Grande is a person, not a “that,” which she made clear in the message that has been retweeted over 78,000 times.

She wrote that she found the fan’s adoration of her rapper boyfriend “cute” and “exciting” until he described her as “sexy as hell,” then made the “hitting that” comment.

“Hitting that?” the former child star wrote before underscoring her fury with a curse word. “The fuck??”

The self-described “adult human being in a relationship with a man who treats [her] with love and respect” went on to say she felt “sick” and “objectified.” She then explained that she was compelled to speak up because she knows “most women know the sensation of being spoken about in an uncomfortable way publicly or taken advantage of publicly by a man.”

She closed by reminding her fans, many of whom are young girls, “We are not objects or prizes.”
