Artists Set Up Black Effigies at Berkeley Amid Garner Protests

Berkeley students joined nationwide protests against police brutality in the cases of Michael Brown and

    Eric Garner

; amid the protests appeared three black effigies with “I Can’t Breathe” displayed prominently on each of them.

Here are images of the effigies as they appeared around campus:

The effigies were spotted quickly and taken down this weekend. A university spokesperson said they were looking into the matter and whether it was racially-motivated.

But just yesterday, an anonymous note popped up on a bulletin board, revealing that a collective of minority artists got together to make the effigies to make a provocative point in solidarity with the protesters.
