Former Obama advisor David Axelrod talked on HuffPost Live today about Rudy Giuliani saying President Obama doesn’t love America (while sort-of retracting it today) and how he thinks it’s about a politician desperately clinging to the limelight to stay relevant.
Axelrod told Alyona Minkovski that to say Obama was raised “differently” from other Americans is ridiculous. Axelrod said, “No one has to give Barack Obama any lessons on the greatness of this country, on patriotism… I think this was more about Rudy Giuliani, a fading politician kind of lighting himself on fire and trying to get some attention and he was successful in doing that.”
As for how the president is taking the news, Axelrod suspected Obama doesn’t really care that much, though he has been known to take attacks personally in the past.
