Bloomberg: ‘Soothing Words Are Nice,’ But Obama And Romney Need To Address Gun Control
Following the tragic shootings today in Colorado, the New York Police Department is beefing up security at movie theaters around the state “as a precaution against copycats.” New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg reacted to the shooting by saying that President Obama and Mitt Romney need to finally start talking about their policies on gun control.
On his weekly radio show, Bloomberg, a gun control advocate, said “if it was one of your kids yesterday in Aurora, maybe you’d stand up and say I’m not going to take this anymore.” He criticized both presidential candidates for providing words of comfort instead of using the opportunity to address gun control issues.
“Soothing words are nice, but maybe it’s time that the two people who want to be President of the United States stand up and tell us what they are going to do about it,” Bloomberg said on his weekly radio show.
“I mean, there are so many murders with guns every day, it’s just got to stop.
“And instead of the two people – President Obama and Gov. Romney – talking … about they want to make the world a better place, okay, tell us how.”
Arianna Huffington tweeted her thoughts on Bloomberg’s statements, saying “People might say it’s too early to have the gun discussion Mayor Bloomberg wants. Actually, it’s too late.” And CNN’s Piers Morgan tweeted earlier that “American has got to do something about its gun laws.”
