Boehner: Americans ‘Deserve More Answers’ About Eric Garner’s Death

House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday that Americans have many unanswered questions about the details surrounding the death of Eric Garner and the subsequent non-indictment of NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo, and added that Americans “deserve more answers.”

Acknowledging his colleague Cathy McMorris Rodgers‘s (R-Wash.) comments Thursday morning that the House should hold hearings to better understand what happened and a potential Justice Department investigation, Boehner said he will not rule those possibilities in or out.

“I think the American people want to understand more of what the facts were,” he said. “There are a lot of unanswered questions that Americans have, and that, frankly, I have.”

Boehner also said something should be done to find out whether “our system of justice was handled properly.”

The Speaker joins the chorus of bipartisan support for more answers about the investigation and the grand jury’s decision to not indict the NYPD officer. He is also breaking from his fellow Republican colleague, Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) who has said that justice was properly served.
