The U.S. Army is expected to make the announcement official later this afternoon.
Bergdahl, of course, was released by the Taliban last year in a prisoner swap. The United States released five detainees from Gitmo in exchange, a move that garnered widespread criticism.

Bergdahl himself came under much scrutiny after members of his platoon publicly called him a deserter, and at the time was reportedly being investigated for colluding with his Taliban captors.
