Breaking: Mitt Romney Disavows Donald Trump’s Endorsement
Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney spent his morning hurling polite dinner-table invective at current Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, despite the fact that during his 2012 bid for the presidency, he enthusiastically sought and received Trump’s endorsement. On Thursday afternoon, Romney put himself in the running for the Nobel Late to the Party Prize when he disavowed that Trump endorsement from four years ago:
If Trump had said 4 years ago the things he says today about the KKK, Muslims, Mexicans, disabled, I would NOT have accepted his endorsement
— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) March 3, 2016
Romney’s tweet came at about the same time that Trump was telling his crowd and three cable news audiences that Romney would have gotten on his knees if he’d told him to.
Curiously absent from Romney’s tweet was any mention of Trump’s repeated racist attacks against President Obama during the 2012 election. We’ll keep watching his Twitter feed for that, and maybe for a tweet congratulating the “Miracle Mets.”
