Brian Stelter Calls on Journalists to ‘Challenge’ Trump’s Claims About PA Cheating
CNN’s senior media correspondent Brian Stelter, like many before him, is calling on journalists to challenge Donald Trump‘s claims. Specifically, Stelter took issue with Trump’s claims that if Hillary Clinton continues the trend of Democrats winning Pennsylvania in the presidential election, it will be because the state cheated.
Trump is at it again, saying he’ll only lose Pennsylvania “if cheating goes on.” Journalists must challenge this. https://t.co/WEg2gSJqXO

As this post went out, CNN had been discussing the “she cheated” quote for over an hour, so it looks like journalists are challenging it. Time will tell how well the trend holds, but this is far from the first time Stelter has called for more journalistic interrogation on Trump’s statements. He’s been hammering Sean Hannity lately over his “irresponsibility” in covering Trump’s talk of a “rigged” election. He called the statements on the election being rigged “third-world dictator stuff” and even debated Jeffrey Lord about it this week, too.
Trump and other journalists would do well to pay attention. This could mark the beginning of a new era that includes challenges even bigger than fact-checking chyrons.
