Brown University Newspaper Apologizes to Malia Obama for Beer Pong Photos

malia obamaBrown University’s student newspaper issued an editorial this week apologizing to Malia Obama for a collection of online photos reportedly showing her playing beer pong.

Obama visited the Rhode Island campus last week, where she also decided to get in on a college party happening that same night. It was at that party where a Snapchat photo was taken of her standing next to a beer pong table, which was picked up in a story from The Daily Caller.

In response to the largely negative backlash to the photo going online, The Brown Daily Herald put out its piece saying that the party-goers were excited to have such a distinguished guest, and that they didn’t know that their tweets and photos could go viral.:

“The college application and selection process is stressful for most students who go through it, but one can only imagine how much the stress multiplies when the whole nation is watching. That is what Malia Obama is experiencing right now…Many Brown students were surprised and embarrassed to see themselves cited in the articles, as other Brown students posted them on Facebook with disappointed captions that criticized their peers for not simply leaving the 17-year-old alone on her college visit.”
