There’s a report out today that not only did Ted Cruz and Ben Carson have a private meeting last night, but they held it in a small closet.
According to The Daily Beast, Carson had apparently agreed to a meeting with Cruz last night, during a South Carolina Conservative Review convention, to clear things up after their Iowa caucus spat.
You may recall that after some reports that Carson was going to Florida after Iowa, Team Cruz spread around that news, with some intimating that Carson was dropping out. Carson was outraged and didn’t like Cruz’s dismissals of wrongdoing.
So, as sources close to the meeting told The Daily Beast, they met in the closet. And as Team Carson tells it, the meeting did not go well:
The meeting, which took place in a storage closet across from a bathroom at the convention center on Thursday, ended with Carson saying “we agree to disagree.”
“We disagree on accountability and culpability,” is how Carson put it according to Osborne.
And the fact that the meeting went public in the first place is causing some problems, with the Carson camp blaming the Cruz camp for leaking it. One Carson staffer said, “We weren’t going to comment to the press on it, but it seems pretty clear that the other party involved had a different agenda. How else could we perceive that to be?”
