Carson Likens Pro-Life Americans to Abolitionists: ‘Where Would We Be’ If They Did Nothing?

Newly-minted Republican presidential frontrunner Ben Carson has made it clear throughout the 2016 campaign that he is against abortion in almost all cases, including rape and incest. In an interview Sunday morning with Chuck Todd on Meet the Press, Carson compared resistance to abortion to that of slavery, and asked where the country would be today if abolitionists stood by idly and did nothing to end slavery:

“Think about this. During slavery — and I know that one of those words you’re not supposed to say, but I’m saying it. During slavery, a lot of the slave owners thought that they had the right to do whatever they wanted to that slave. Anything that they chose to do. And what if the abolitionists had said, ‘You know, I don’t believe in slavery. I think it’s wrong. But you guys do whatever you want to do.’ Where would we be?”

Carson, who has surged to the top of many national polls among GOP primary voters in recent months, said he “would love” to see Roe v. Wade overturned.
