Cenk Uygur Rips MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle For Saying Biden Plan is Bad Because ‘All It’s Going to Do’ is Create High-Wage Jobs
The Young Turks founder and host Cenk Uygur roasted Stephanie Ruhle and her network over her claim President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan will contribute to inflation by increasing wages.
On Friday’s edition of the pioneering online news program, co-hosts John Iadarola and Nina Turner joined Uygur to discuss the segment at issue: a clip from MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle Reports in which Ruhle told her panel that the infrastructure plan will negatively affect inflation.
“I am going to laugh at this idea that the infrastructure bill is going to help with inflation, all that’s going to do is create more jobs,” Ruhle said, and went on to add that “We don’t have enough people to fill our current jobs, and this argument, ‘they’re going to be jobs at higher wages,’ higher wages are one of the contributing factors to inflation.”
Iadorola reacted to the clip by that “they pretend that they don’t have a bias, but clearly there is a bias, and the bias is against higher wages.”
Uygur began by derisively noting ” that is on MSNBC, that is a theoretical left-wing channel in Washington,” then said of Ruhle “So she is saying the problem with Biden agenda is it’s going to create too many jobs. All it’s going to do is create more jobs.”
He then mockingly interpreted Ruhe’s statement, saying “We don’t want to create more jobs. No. But if we create more jobs, what does that do? It drives wages up, which actually affects your life in an incredibly positive way. But then the second half for a statement is, ‘Oh my God, the masses now have money to spend! They’re actually beginning to get a livable wage. Now that’s going to drive up inflation, and that could affect my stock portfolio!'”
Uygur went on to slam MSNBC and the “corporate media” for opposing Biden’s Build Back Better plan.
“All of Washington has turned against it, including corporate media. And they have good cop, bad cop. Fox News is the bad cop. MSNBC, theoretically, is the good cop, but they all agree. Oh my God, if your wages are higher, that would be terrible for America,” he said.
He wrapped up with another rant against MSNBC:
They mentioned the Fed, and they’re saying the Fed should raise rates and that would lower inflation. That again, is true. OK. But they don’t mention the number one problem with the Fed that led to the inflation in the first place. Printing trillions of dollars of money and handing it to corporations, which they have now done several different times. Overflow of money into the economy creates inflation. But that is inconvenient for them. So they said, “Oh no, no, no. They give trillions to the corporations. That’s all that’s great! That’s a responsible American way. OK? That’s what you do. You just print the money. You headed to the corporations who were to bribe you. That’s what you do, right? Oh, now you got higher wages. God damn it. OK, hey, we’re MSNBC, we’re the left-wing channel.”
According to a recent Bloomberg analysis, wage increases thus far have not been responsible for pushing inflation up, and that over decades, “Low wage growth has gradually eroded workers’ spending power, and it’ll take a much bigger raise to catch up.”
President Biden, for his part, has been making the case that improvements in infrastructure will have an effect on the supply chain crisis that even Ruhle herself has said is a driver of inflation.
