Bernie Sanders sat down for a lengthy interview yesterday with The Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur, and at one point Uygur asked the Democratic candidate about supporting a third-party candidate over Hillary Clinton.
He said that if “there’s a third party candidate that’s much closer to your views… why not support the person that’s much closer to your views?”
Sanders touted his independent streak before pointing to Ralph Nader and the “terrible things” that happened under George W. Bush.
“If you lose,” Uygur pointed out, “and then you say ‘Go vote for Hillary Clinton,’ well, is that an inauthentic position, given the argument you’ve made against her in these primaries?”
Sanders trashed Trump and called him a know-nothing “pathological liar” before acknowledging people have concerns that Clinton is more motivated by politics than principles.
But no, he did not commit to anything on the question of supporting a third party candidate over Clinton.
