Charleston City Council Bans Protests Near Funerals
The Charleston City Council acted last night to prevent anyone from being able to protest or picket near the funerals of the nine people shot down and killed at the Emanuel AME Church.
According to the Associated Press, they unanimously passed an ordinance last night to ban protests within 300 feet of any building holding funeral services, stretching to an hour before and after the service.
Mayor Joe Riley said there’s been one group in particular planning to protest, and while he didn’t get specific, there is that one really horrible group with a reputation for picketing at people’s funerals that may show up in Charleston.
