Chris Wallace to Priebus: Looks Like Internal Romney Spat Is ‘Close to Open Warfare’

wallace-priebusChris Wallace spoke with incoming White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus about how openly people in Donald Trump‘s orbit are pushing back against the idea of Mitt Romney as Secretary of State.

Wallace told Priebus this morning, “Something close to open warfare has broken out over his deliberations about choosing Secretary of State.”

Romney is in the running for the Cabinet position, but a number of people in Trump’s orbit have come out publicly to really push back against picking him.

Wallace asked Priebus if Trump thinks it’s “appropriate” for people to be publicly lobbying him like that. Priebus acknowledged there are “a lot of opinions” about this, affirming that Trump wants the best person for the job.

He said the fact that Trump is even considering Romney shows that he has the best interests of the country in mind in a “team of rivals”-type manner.

Wallace asked Priebus if Romney will need to publicly apologize first before getting the position. Priebus did not say one way or the other.
