New Jersey Governor Chris Christie came in 6th place in New Hampshire tonight, and now there’s some news coming out of his campaign tonight that suggests it’s coming to a close.
Christie decided tonight, the AP reports, that he’s returning back to New Jersey to “take a deep breath” and reevaluate things after seeing the final results tonight. He was angling for a strong showing as a Northeastern moderate Republican, but he fell behind John Kasich, Jeb Bush, and Marco Rubio on that score.
The New Jersey governor didn’t say he’s dropping out, and reassured supporters he’s just going to reevaluate.
Now, the fact that Christie fell behind Rubio in the polls is significant because Christie made news at the last debate for going after Rubio. He called out the Florida senator for repeating the same anti-Obama talking point, and Rubio continued to repeat it. In fact, that moment may have cost Rubio a major boost tonight, which he himself admitted tonight.
