Darren Wilson’s Attorney: We Had Nothing to Do with Ferguson Investigation Leaks

The Justice Department spoke out this week condemning leaks from the Michael Brown grand jury investigation, and now the attorney for Darren Wilson, the officer who shot Brown, has put out a statement firmly denying they had anything to do with those leaks.

The DOJ called the leaks “irresponsible and highly troubling” and said, “There seems to be an inappropriate effort to influence public opinion about this case.” One report from yesterday includes comments from anonymous sources close to the investigation about the autopsy conducted on Brown, including the revelation that he supposedly had marijuana in his system.

In a statement today from Wilson’s attorney, they deny any involvement in leaking details of the investigation:

We were not responsible for any leaks to any media including those published in the NY Times and the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Further, we are not in possession of any of the disclosed reports or the investigative report. Finally, as long as the Grand Jury continues to meet and the Department of Justice continues to investigate, any commentary on this matter should only be done in the appropriate judicial venue and not through the media.

At this point, it’s not clear whether Wilson will face charges at the end of the grand jury investigation or not. CNN anchor Don Lemon said today it’s unlikely.
