Dem. Elijah Cummings Attempts to Draw the Differences Between Clinton and General Petraeus
Democrat Elijah Cummings, one of the ranking members of the House Committee Oversight, pushed FBI Director James Comey Thursday morning to identify the differences between Hillary Clinton‘s case and that of General David Petraeus.
“Some have tried to argue that this case is far worse that General David Petraeus,” Cummings said to Comey during interrogation about the Clinton investigation, “who was convicted in 2015 of willfully and intentionally compromising highly classified information.”
General David Petraeus pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of mishandling classified information in May 2013 at a time when James Comey was also FBI Director.
“If I understand that case correctly, General Petraeus kept highly-classified information in eight personal notebooks at his private residence, is that correct?” asked Cummings in his best effort to highlight the differences between the well-known case surrounding Petraeus and Clinton’s recent email investigation. “He was caught on audio tape telling [biographer-turned-lover Paula Broadwell] and I quote ‘I mean, they are highly classified.'”
James Comey responded in kind to note the key differences between Petraeus and Clinton’s cases, namely, the General’s admittance that he willingly knew sharing information such as war strategies and intelligence capabilities with Broadwell.
