Dutch Mayor Suggests Putin’s Daughter Should Be Deported, Apologizes

Maria Putin, one of Vladimir Putin‘s daughters, reportedly lives in the Netherlands, and so today one Dutch mayor suggested that she should be deported, in reaction to the Malaysian Airlines plane being shot down possibly by pro-Russian separatists or the Russian government. A great many of the passengers on board MH17 were Dutch, so perhaps that’s what inspired Hilversum Mayor Pieter Broertjes to make such a remark.

Broertjes said on a radio interview today that Putin’s daughter should be kicked out of the country.

Later in the day, Broertjes felt compelled to post an apology to Twitter.

That roughly translates to (according to Bing): “Comment about daughter Putin on Radio 1 was not wise. This stemmed from a sense of powerlessness that many people will recognize it.”
