John McCluskey, an escaped prisoner who was on the loose since July 30th, and his fiancée Casslyn Welch have been captured in northeast Arizona. Welch is suspected to have helped McCluskey, along with two other inmates– Tracy Province and Daniel Renwick, escape.
The three were inmates at a privately-run prison in Kingman, Arizona. McCluskey was the last of the three to be captured. From NBC News:
McCluskey was serving a 15-year sentence for attempted murder, aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm.
Police suspect McCLuskey and Welch hijacked an 18-wheeler and its two drivers, later released unharmed, and brutally murdered an elderly Oklahoma couple, Gary and Linda Haas, in New Mexico. The Haas’ burned bodies were found in a travel trailer Aug. 4 on a remote ranch.
Apache County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Richard Guinn said officials got a tip from forest workers at the Gabaldon Campground, saying they saw two people who matched the description of the fugitives.
They are suspected to have come back to Arizona after being spotted in Montana because sources say they were running out of money. McCluskey’s mother, Claudia Washburn, is also fighting a legal battle for attempting to help her son escape.
