In an interview with CBS News, a former coworker of San Bernardino shooting suspect Syed Farook said he blamed Farook’s radicalization on his wife Tashfeen Malik.
Christian Nwadike told host David Begnaud that Farook’s demeanor changed after his trip to Saudi Arabia, where Farook met Malik in person after communicating with her online.
Nwadike said Farook “married a terrorist,” adding the former San Bernardino county employee, “was set up” to commit the massacre through his marriage with Malik.
Farook and Malik opened fire at the Inland Regional Center Wednesday, killing 14 people and injuring 21. Reports suggest Farook, who worked as an environmental health inspector for five years, was radicalized prior to the shooting. The FBI reports Malik pledged allegiance to ISIS during the rampage.
Farook’s sister Saira Khan told Begnaud she “can’t fathom” how her brother and sister-in-law committed the massacre.
“I can never imagine my brother or my sister-in-law doing something like this,” Khan said. “Especially because they were happily married, they had a beautiful 6-month-old daughter. It’s just mind boggling why they would do something like this.”
