FBI Will Likely Drop Apple Case, Says It Hacked Terrorist’s Phone Without Company’s Help
The Justice Department announced that it had successfully hacked into the iPhone of San Bernardino terrorist Syed Farook, and the federal government is expected to withdraw its legal action against the tech company.
Apple had been fighting a court order, compelling them to write software that would allow law enforecment officials to break into the phone. CEO Tim Cook defended the controversial action, claiming that it set a dangerous precedent for data security and government surveillance capabilities.
FBI officials had recently expressed hope that they would be able to break into the phone without Apple’s cooperation.
