Ferguson Police Are Being Trained on How to Use Body Cameras

One of the biggest complaints Ferguson residents made about the police in the wake of the Michael Brown shooting is that if officers had body cameras, it would make a difference in how police interact with suspects. And this week Ferguson cops are receiving training on such body cameras.

Private companies donated dozens and dozens of body cameras to the Ferguson PD, and the police department has bought several of its own, for a grand total of 55 body cameras.

The idea is that officers will clip the cameras (which are battery-powered) onto their shirts and carry them around with them over the course of the day. Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson acknowledged that if Officer Darren Wilson had such a camera on him, it would make the Brown shooting case a lot easier.

His goal is to have all Ferguson officers wearing body cameras by the start of next week.
