Gohmert Fires Back at McCain: ‘Would Be Better Off With No Intelligence’

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) appears to be taking his Republican colleage Sen. John McCain’s “no intelligence” jab in stride. In a statement to The Daily Beast, Gohmert said McCain “would be better off with ‘no intelligence.'”

Gohmert was responding to comments made by McCain on NBC Nightly News, in which he dismissed a suggestion by Gohmert that he supports Al Qaeda by saying that sometimes “comments like that are made out of malice, but if someone has no intelligence I don’t view it as being a malicious statement.”

Gohmert’s full statement reads:

“Obviously, Senator McCain would be better off with ‘no intelligence’ since he does not know the Syrian opposition he met with is infested with al Qaeda and terrorist kidnappers. His ‘intelligence’ even caused him to support the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt that burned churches and killed Christians, as the senator stood against the will of the massive majority of Egyptians including moderate Muslims, Christians, and secularists who demanded the Muslim Brotherhood extremist persecutions must end.”

Rather than back off of his attacks on the senior senator from Arizona, Gohmert appears to have doubled down, extending the feud between the two Republicans who stand on opposite sides of the moderate-to-tea party spectrum.
