Golf Channel Slammed for MLK-Themed Tweet, Get Surprising Cable News Defender
Today, the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, is a day for everyone to reflect on that critical moment in American history and talk about how far the U.S. has come since then. For the Golf Channel, it was an opportunity to ask what people’s “golf dream” is. The channel’s Twitter handle asked its followers to share their golf dreams on his historic anniversary, leading to a round of social media mockery and condemnation.
The Golf Channel deleted the tweet (more on that below) but it was preserved for posterity in this screencap posted on the blog UnMarketing.

There was also this bewildered modified tweet from HuffPost Media.

Naturally, people found it just a teeny bit inappropriate that the Golf Channel would appropriate the anniversary for a little self-promotion. The Golf Channel ended up deleting the tweet and apologizing.

However, the Golf Channel got support from at least one corner: CNN’s Piers Morgan, who tweeted out a Tiger Woods reference and ended up scuffling with Twitchy over what he said. Morgan defended the Golf Channel’s tweet, again citing Tiger Woods.
