GOP Lawmaker Kills Live Chicken on Facebook to ‘Get to the Heart of the Matter’ on Abortion

Missouri politics can get pretty weird. We’ve recently had a couple of state lawmakers suggest women go to the zoo to get abortions. The current governor raised campaign cash by selling ‘ISIS hunting permits” last year. A couple of state reps got into a back-alley brawl — literally!

However, despite all that, Missourians still weren’t likely prepared for one of their elected officials taking to Facebook to post a video of him decaptiating and gutting a live chicken while talking about abortion.

In the video posted on his page Monday, State Rep. Mike Moon (R-Ash Grove) mulled over the special legislative session Greitens called in order to repeal what the governor has described as St. Louis’s abortion “sanctuary city” law. Greitens wants to get rid of the city’s law that will shelter women from discrimination over reproductive choices.

Well, the anti-abortion lawmaker apparently doesn’t think Greitens is going far enough. While beheading the chicken on the video, Moon that he was taking a break from his summer job to go “back to work.” He then commented about how God has given dominion over animals “so we can sustain life.”

Moon went on to dress and clean the killed bird, leading to him pulling out the heart while bringing up a bill he’s going to propose.

“So we’ve been called back to this special session for the primary purpose of supporting life, protecting the unborn specifically,” he mused. “I think we need to get to the heart of the matter here. So today, I’m filing a bill that will lead to the stopping of abortion in the state of Missouri and I hope you’ll support it.”

This isn’t the first time Moon has drawn attention to himself. Earlier this year he filed the “Never Again Act,” seeking an exhibit on the history of abortion in the state museum. Moon has also said giving paid parental leave to state employees is the road to Marxism.

Alison Dreith, the executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri, had the following to say about the video:

“Whatever Mike Moon does with a chicken in the privacy of his home is his own business,” Dreith told the Missouri Times. “But we will not let him use the rights of women across Missouri as some kind of political prop. His call to ban abortion is disturbing and dangerous, no matter what he does with that chicken.”

If you have a strong stomach, feel free to check out Moon’s video above.
