GOP Rep: Boehner Defectors Are ‘Bad Actors’ Who Just Want Attention
Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.) repudiated efforts by some conservative Republicans in the House of Representatives to unseat House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), telling Ed Berliner on Newsmax TV that their actions were only meant for media attention.
“Those who are acting out right now that are getting some media attention — that’s all it is, it’s media attention,” Ellmers said of efforts by Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Ted Yoho (R-Fl.) to challenge Boehner. “These are folks that thrive on it. They’re bad actors right now because they’re acting as if they’re going against the party and there’s really no substance to it whatsoever.”

Ellmers said if Republicans like Gohmert and Yoho actually wanted a new speaker, they should have acted “months ago,” and said party unity is what Republicans should strive for in the new Congress.
Despite the opposition, though, Boehner, as expected, won re-election as Speaker.
