GOP Rep. Is Giving Away Something ‘Obama Would Like Nothing More Than to Ban’

That’s one way to collect email addresses. Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) is currently running to replace Republican Saxby Chambliss in the Senate, and has decided that one way to collect the information of potential conservative supporters is to give away a semi-automatic AR-15. The page on his website where you can sign up to win helpfully reminds entrants that this is their chance to get the popular gun model before President Obama “bans” them for good:

The fine print on the rules page does specify that the winner must be a U.S. citizen over 18 and be “eligible to pass background checks and required Federal, State and
Local laws in order to take possession of the firearm.”

Broun is not the first 2014 candidate to go down this road. Also this week, Republican South Carolina State Sen. Lee Bright, who is challenging incumbent Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, announced he would be giving away an AR-15. Similarly, all contestants need to do to be entered to win is give Bright their email address and phone number.

Bright went so far as to invoke the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in his email announcing the sweepstakes. “In the wake of the horrific tragedy in Newtown, Conn., gun-grabbers were sure they had the votes to ram gun control into law,” the email read. “Thanks to the action of Second Amendment supporters all over the country, their schemed failed — even despite my Republican primary opponent, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.”
