GOP Rep Matt Gaetz Battles Chris Cuomo in Wild, Nonsensical Debate Over FBI Texts: ‘I Don’t Trust CNN Anchors’
CNN’s Chris Cuomo and Republican Florida representative Matt Gaetz had it out over the “secret society” texts sent between two FBI agents, and Cuomo excoriated Gaetz and the GOP for not releasing the intelligence memo on the subject.
“I want the memo released. I want to know more because politicians have politics in their mind, and I do not trust any of you as ultimate arbiters of fact,” Cuomo said.
“I don’t trust CNN anchors,” Gaetz shot back. “But that doesn’t mean we can’t have a debate about the context.”
Cuomo later segued into discussing a comment that Gaetz made that the five-month gap in which the FBI says a technical glitch deleted all the information from hundreds of agents’ phones was the “biggest coincidence since Immaculate Conception.”
“Where is the analogy? That’s what I don’t understand. What do you think happened with the Immaculate Conception?” Cuomo asked, to which Gaetz replied: “Look, did you really bring me on to discuss my religious views?”
Cuomo then explained to Gaetz that Jesus’s birth was not, in fact, the Immaculate Conception.
“It was Mary’s conception. It was the mother’s conception without original sin. It was not the conception of Jesus. Facts matter, congressman,” he said.
Yep. Cuomo took Gaetz to Sunday School.
