The infamous buttfumble — which turns five in November — remains the gold standard for inept football plays. (Lol Jets.) This one, though, might be the most comically absurd play since.
In Saturday night’s Louisiana Tech vs. Mississippi State game, Louisiana Tech lined up on the Mississippi State 6 yard line for a second and goal play. The snap was high and it sailed over the Louisiana Tech quarterback J’Mar Smith‘s head. Smith ran the loose ball down and tried to fall on it at the 28 yard line, but was unable to secure it.
From there, madness ensued. Players from both teams took turns playing hot potato. No one was able to get their hands on this thing. Several players even kicked the ball as they were trying to recover it.
Eventually, Tech wideout Cee Jay Powell took possession. He was marked down at the 7 yard line. The Louisiana Tech 7 yard line. A loss of 87 yards (according to ESPN, that’s the largest single play yardage loss in college football since 2004.
The Internet, of course, almost never disappoints with this kind of thing. And indeed, it came through once again — as Twitter user Justin Twell added some much needed Benny Hill music to the clip.

Perfect. Well done, Justin. Not so well done, Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State.
