Hillary Denies Saying ISIS is Rooting For Trump By Explaining How ISIS is Rooting For Trump
At a press conference on the tarmac Thursday morning, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pressed a relentless attack against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, even when she was denying that she had attacked Trump. After Clinton’s aides indicated that the presser was over, NBC News’s Andrea Mitchell elbowed her way into asking one last question, which is inaudible, but which she later explained was asking Hillary her response to Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan‘s demand that Hillary apologize for saying ISIS is rooting for a Trump victory.
Hillary explained that she had not said any such thing, then proceeded to quote, at length, the Time Magazine article that former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Matt Olsen just published on that very subject:
Matt Olsen, the very distinguished and effective former director of the National Counterterrorism center, was so disturbed by what he has seen coming from the Trump campaign that he wrote an article that I guess came online in the last 48 hours pulling from public sources very clear statements by ISIS leaders essentially throwing whatever support they have to Donald Trump. They have, as Matt Olsen pointed out, said they hoped that Allah delivers America to Trump. They have said they hope he is the president because it would give even more motivation to every jihadi.
As it turns out, there were news articles suggesting that Hillary had said “ISIS is rooting for Trump’s victory” in an interview with an Israeli TV station, but in the actual interview, as Clinton said, she was merely quoting Matt Olsen:
Well, quoting and super-agreeing with him, actually. From hr response at that press conference, it doesn’t sound like Hillary is about to apologize for that, either.
