In Puerto Rico Speech Elizabeth Warren Demands Trump FEMA Chief Brock Long Resign or Be Fired
Democratic presidential candidate and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren demanded the resignation or firing of Donald Trump‘s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrator, Brock Long, for what Warren called unbelievable “incompetence.”
During a speech in San Juan, Puerto Rico Tuesday evening, Warren spent a good deal of time blasting Trump over the government shutdown and his “dumb” border wall, but really went after the administration’s response to the devastating hurricanes that left thousands dead on the island.
“Countless FEMA personnel have worked long and hard to help Puerto Rico dig out after the hurricanes, but they’ve had too few resources and too little support from Washington,” Warren said, adding that “FEMA’s administrator, Brock Long, has enabled this negligence.”
“I have repeatedly called for investigations into waste and abuse in FEMA contracts here,” Warren continued. “I have repeatedly called on FEMA to ensure that hurricane death count tolls are accurate, I have repeatedly called on FEMA to provide emergency housing for your family members who were forced to evacuate to the mainland.”
Then she zeroed in on Long.
“I was one of only four Senators who opposed Brock Long’ nomination to run FEMA, but even I could not have imagined this level of incompetence,” Warren said. “Enough is enough!”
“If accountability in government means anything, Brock long should take responsibility for his failures, he should resign as the head of FEMA,” she said, adding “And if he isn’t willing to do that, he should be fired.”
