ISIS T-Shirts and Hoodies Now Available; Facebook Shuts Down Seller Page
Yesterday, Facebook pulled down the page for Zirah Moslem, an Indonesia-based apparel company that sold t-shirts and hoodies emblazoned with ISIS logos. Sadly, this is not ISIS the band, but ISIS the terrorist group currently destabilizing the Middle East.
Thanks to a recent report from Vocativ, the world now knows of a small cottage industry, mostly based in Indonesia, of businesses selling pro-mujahideen t-shirts, with graphics that recall popular video games like Call of Duty and Halo. Zirah Moslem in particular sold a wide variety of clothing supporting groups like Hamas and the Taliban, and recently started carrying ISIS-branded hoodies, jackets, shirts, and even bobbleheads and figurines.
Upon learning that this industry exists, Facebook immediately shut down Zirah Moslem’s page. “At Facebook, we have rules that bar direct statements of hate, attacks on private individuals and groups, and the promotion of terrorism,” the social network said in a statement to Fox News. The website for Zirah Moslem has also disappeared.
The lack of cool apparel likely won’t hurt ISIS, seeing as the terrorist group is particularly good at leveraging social media (and young terrorists who look like Justin Bieber.
But if you want to buy merchandise from the defunct metal band Isis, you can always go here.
