Jake Tapper on Failure of Health Care Bill: ‘Republicans Could Not Get Their Act Together’
Prior to the start of Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s press conference today following the pulling of the American Health Care Act from a House vote, CNN anchor Jake Tapper laid into the Republican Party for not being able to deliver on the signature issue they’ve been running on for the last seven years.
Highlighting that the bill is essentially dead, Tapper proceeded to give a bit of a political history lesson. He pointed out all the times President Donald Trump said on the campaign trail that he’d make great deals and that he alone could fix the problems. The CNN host also noted how the GOP had pushed an ultimatum that it was this or Obamacare before taking them to task.
“Republicans couldn’t get their act together to deliver on this promise to the American people to repeal and replace Obamacare with another bill,” Tapper noted.
He added, “It was an embarrassment for the White House and the House Republicans and now we wonder how much will this failure impact the rest of President Trump’s agenda.”
