Jeb Bush Defends Brother After Negative Quotes Emerge From Bush 41 Biography

jebAfter quotes began to emerge from a new biography of George H. W. Bush that criticized member of George W. Bush‘s administration, current presidential candidate Jeb Bush defended his brother.

The New York Times reports that Bush 41 badmouthed Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld in his upcoming biography, with the former president calling Cheney an “iron-ass” who “carved out his own empire” within the White House, and saying Rumsfeld “served the president badly.” But in remarks to reporters, Jeb characterized those comments as just his father trying to defend his son.

“I think my dad, like a lot of people that love George, want to try to create a different narrative, perhaps just to—just because that’s natural to do, right?” he said. “But George would say, ‘This was under my watch, I was commander-in-chief, I was the leader and I accept personal responsibility for what happened, both the good and the bad.'”

“As it relates to Dick Cheney, he served my brother well as vice president, and he served my dad extraordinarily well as secretary of defense,” he continued. “The context changes—we’ve got to get beyond this feeling that somehow 1991 is the same as 2001, which is the same as 2017.”
