Jimmy Carter: ‘I Have Cancer’
Jimmy Carter revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer in a press release to the media on Wednesday.
According to the official statement, the 39th President of the United States confirmed the diagnosis after undergoing liver surgery to presumably detect and remove the cancer therein:
“Recent liver surgery revealed that I have cancer that is now in other parts of my body. I will be rearranging my schedule as necessary so I can undergo treatment by physicians at Emory Healthcare. A more complete public statement will be made when the facts are known, possibly next week.”
NBC Nightly News broke the announcement on Twitter shortly after 4:30 p.m. EST:

UPDATE – 6:15 PM E.S.T President Obama released a statement expressing his sympathies to Carter’s family. They praised Carter to be “as resilient as they come,” and that they hope for his recovery:
