JK Rowling Smacks Down Westboro Baptist Church in One Tweet
A Westboro Baptist Church-related Twitter account tried to give Harry Potter-creator JK Rowling some grief over the fanfic marriage of one of her characters to Gandolf, and she wasn’t having it, not even a little:
.@WBCsigns Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls.
— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) May 26, 2015
The context was the Ireland’s historic vote legalizing same-sex marriage last weekend. Westboro had already tried to troll Ireland for the vote. Alas, they got the country’s flag wrong and ended up criticizing the Ivory Coast.
The WBC is a fringe, Kansas-based cult that has made itself infamous by protesting the funerals of American service members, believing their deaths are punishment for the society’s allowance of homosexuality. @WBCSigns is not the Church’s official account, but is connected to the church. The account continued to tweet at Rowling, but this fight was done.
