Jon Stewart Becomes the Latest Commentator to Blame the Media For Trump’s Rise
During the same podcast interview in which he called Donald Trump a “man baby,” former Daily Show host Jon Stewart likened the media to crack dealers for giving rise to said man baby to pad their own pockets at consumers’ expense.
He was speaking to President Barack Obama‘s former senior adviser David Axelrod during a taping of “The Axe Files” at the University of Chicago. Here’s the full quote:
I think that the problem is the system is incentivized in all the wrong directions and right now, the system is incentivized in the way that a crack dealer is incentivized, which is, “It can do tremendous damage but as long as people are buying crack, everything is good on his block.” And I truly believe it’s that corrosive and corrupt.

He went on to call out heads of media companies (like Les Moonves) for relying on Trump to reel in viewers and lament that top anchors (like Megyn Kelly) have to go out of their way to schedule meetings with Trump in order to get him to “stop being mean.”
Stewart, retired though he may be, is still part of the media. He’s covering Trump, too. It would seem, then, that selling crack or discussing Donald Trump are perhaps unavoidable in certain circumstances.
